Iris Versicolor is a variety of Iris that is native to Eastern Canada, and Eastern United States. Versicolor means variously colored which you can see through the yellow, blue and purple in this flowers petals. Iris Versicolor is a flower that likes having a wet feet and is often found along stream banks, marshes, ponds, and in sedge meadows. It is often found in clumps as it sprouts new growth from it growing roots called rhizomes. Speaking of the rhizomes, you do not want to eat the roots or leaves of this plant as it is poisonous to humans and animals. The sap of this plant can cause dermatitis if you have sensitive skin. Just another reminder to be informed about plants because you never know what secrets their beauty is hiding!
